How to scope an MVP without building a disposable demo
An MVP is valuable when it helps the team make a real product decision. That requires a coherent user experience and trustworthy evidence, not the maximum number of features that fit a small budget.
01
Define the decision first
State what the team needs to learn and what evidence would change the roadmap. Scope follows from that decision, not from an arbitrary list of “must-have” features.
02
Preserve the complete journey
Remove secondary features, but keep the path that lets a real user experience the value, complete the core task, and produce the feedback or behavior the team needs to observe.
03
Choose proportionate foundations
Do not build enterprise-scale infrastructure for untested demand, but do not make data, security, or ownership so fragile that the test itself becomes misleading. Architecture should match the risk and credible next step.
